Request for game creation help

Okay my plan is to make a game (using all the cube maps possible?) For people that don't have money to buy hardcore (360,ps3,ETC) type games. Then (I plan on paying the 800 dollars to get it on Xbox 360 Live and PlayStation network) as a FREE GAME.

My Point is I would like ANYONE whom has designed anything for cube 2 to ether send me links to download or give promisson to use your maps and all their content

I WILL LIST YOUR NAMES IN MY WORK

I sure hope I get as much feed back as its going to take to get this great game out into the world more then it already has gone!

Big commitment. Maybe talk to some of the devs, they might help you meet the $800 goal :P

The other thing you gotta be concerned about is the other material, such as textures, skyboxes, etc.. In which case you're better off asking people directly as opposed to waiting for them to come to you.

..Actually, I would be bold enough to ask why you're doing this. Usually (I think) if someone has an Xbox or advanced game system, they have the money to either pay for Sauer or have a computer as well to play it for free. I do agree the game needs to be marketed more zealously, but of course that means money - plus, comparing this to other xbox games, even for free I don't know how many people would be interested. Anyways, no complaints. The more people the better :)

I have adjusted your node title to be less annoying, and I will note that in general the community doesn't respond well to people who have no proof of their ability (create first, be prepared to do all the work yourself) or evidence of a final product (we see lots of vapourware).

Cube 2 is a highly accessible engine, both from a coding standpoint and a mapping standpoint, so we see this kind of thing too much and 99% of people never follow through. If anything, it will take you a very long time to port to these two platforms, assuming you don't give up first like most people.

I suggest you set your goals a little closer toward something more achievable.

Thanks Quin For your advice but I've been working on this for about 2 years on and off and for once I'm close to making it a reality I understand your worry of Vaporware, But I insure you my intentions and goals are set, not set in stone cause for some reason XNA game maker for 360 doesn't want to compile Cube 2 (it will sandbox which you know is a version of cube 2). That so far is my major problem Sadly. But also The major reason I was asking (and I posted this) was in respect to the many peoples hard work involved inside the game Textures, models, ETC. I have made many textures of my own but I would like to keep some maps, textures, and map models made by others. I have read your links and reread them to make sure I'm respecting Cube and everyone involved inside it

Ok great idea, idealy at least. The main problem would be the simple fact that you are realizing what kind of work is involved in moding a game from a computer platform to a console platform. The main problem would be that they do not use the same operating system, so all the calls that cube makes to windows (or mac or linx) will have to be changed into the alterate code, and some areas of the code could need completely rewriten.

Also the game play, in my opinion would not fit on a console game, mostly because of the quake style game play (quick speed, death, respawned). Joysticks are simply not capable of giving the same power that a mouse and keyboard are capable.

Networking would be another nightmare. You would more then likely have to rewrite most of the multiplayer calls. And also you would have to create your own server code to receive and send client, using xbox live, ps3, any other platforms code and calls.

Well... He didn't say hes going to port Sauerbraten to console but CREATE NEW game which doesn't mean it's gonna have same gameplay system.

true, but most of the content (mostly the layout of the maps) is exclusive to the gameplay type :)

i suggest if you are trying to make a marketable single/multi player game use a real engine :) Not to knock any of the devs of the cube engine but this engine is really not marketable as anything more then a indy development. Xbox live will never pick up a game in such a baby stage of development.

there is an indy community games section for xbox live.. calm down. there's worse games on there so you should really be quiet. quit trying to be an asshole about things, and if you actually payed attention you'd see that cube 2 on xbox 360 will (not would :P) be awesome.

I'm just going to say this I'm closer then everyone thinks all I need is promission to use a few maps and textures (I rerendered most textures and maps to near hd rewrote the engine more then a million different ways,and even made a few mods of my own which i won't post on here until their complete)

and just to tell those out their whom think that I wont get this project any where well I've already got 6 awards for my creations over the last 3 years (4 with my own version of cube 2 i mixed with the unreal engine)

Btw, you can use my maps as well if you like (lostinspace, level9). The skyboxes though are from Blindabuser ("blindasky", lostinspace) and mayhem ("eclipse", level9), so you need to ask them for the skyboxes first, or find some similar replacement.

I have no issues with you using my maps, if you'd like. Forge, mercury, and refuge are the three currently included in the game. Also duomo, but you would have to ask Mayhem too (I'm sure he would be fine with the idea).
