Detailed description

Keystone is essentially a remake of Foundation from Halo 2 with a few minor differences. Some of the proportions/placement may be slightly off, but this was the best I could manage going from reference pictures. I attempted to maintain the bleak appearance of the original by using light textures with a bright orangey glow enveloping the map.

[Update 1] Fixed lighting so that there is now contrast and shadows.

[Update 2] Replaced geometry crates with map models.

[Update 3] Added ambient sound effects.

[Update 4] Modified lighting, sounds, and textures, modified weapon placement, added team colors and team spawns/flags, changed particle effects, removed several map entities, fixed clipping, and modified the map geometry.

[Release 1] Added trim to the spawn room walls, some retexturing, lighting, and additional detailing.

[Release 1.1] Deleted the crate models in the main arena area and replaced two with geometry crates.

[Release 1.3] Drenched the map in team colors with a bit of unrelated retexturing.

[Release 1.5] Now only two team colors. (The four team version can still be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tonwg3yzxyz)

I don't know why any training facility would have a public restroom out in the middle of the testing grounds, but it has one nonetheless.

This map is currently configured for a six person deathmatch or a twelve player CTF/STF game.

very nice remake, i was actually going to do this my self. no lighting tho, and its alittle weird forBF gameplay.

Yeah, the lighting was difficult. I originally wanted to bring out some shadows but the overall light was too dim when I used a massive light ent as a "sun."

I have the ambient light set to 255 153 102 as of now. I'll try to figure out a way to get some shadows for the final version.

you can actually make a light entity that is actualy a "Sun", with unlimited range. im pretty sure you just set the radius to 0

I tried /newent light 0 255 153 102, but the overall light was too little. I raised the black/white ambient light to make the map brighter overall, but then the shadows barely showed.

I'll have to strike a balance.

maybe you should read the notes above first, its saying the map is designed for blood frontier, who uses .bgz files, unlike sauerbraten uses .ogz files :P.

Okay, so I've finally had a chance to take a proper look at this map; and I like what I see.. mostly. I'd like to include it in the distribution, but you should look at fixing it up a little before I do that. Also, I've looked into your lighting issues, and have noted that your problems were due to a bug in the Beta 2 release which have been solved in SVN.

[1] and [2] I feel these rooms are far too sparse. They could benefit with some flags and team theming for CTF/STF games. Removing some of the "ugly" textures will also help (I don't much like that restroom texture used in #1).
[3] and [4] The grenades and some other items could probably use better placement. I don't consider this important as I will usually re-balance an item layout though before including it in our rotation. It's also not a good idea to place weapons behind a playerstart either.
[5] The mapmodels don't really add much to the map in my opinion, and they kind of detract from the overall flow and feel. It doesn't help our models are dated and aesthetically displeasing, so this isn't entirely your fault.
[6] The sounds used on the pushers could probably use a larger radius, so that walking up to them doesn't involve a sudden burst of sound, but rather making the effect more gradual.
[7] The clipping in this level is inadequate, due to the parkour moves in Blood Frontier, most players will be able to jump up to the roof and end up outside the level; which almost always puts a damper on gameplay.
[8] This yellow texture here could be swapped with team colours for greater effect, allowing each corner of the map to have its own "feel" and uniquely identifying it so you don't get lost. It would also compliment a CTF/STF/TeamDM setup (which in itself will require playerstarts with an assigned team value).

If you don't want to download the SVN version of BF, I will recalc the lights myself too if/when you make these changes (like I did when testing the original version of this map). Feel free to drop by our IRC channel if you wish to discuss anything further and possibly get iterative feedback on how to get this map into the distribution.

It's a good map, but for me, only 6/10 so far.

are you serious, this is one of the few good maps from halo 2 that they did not include in halo 3 :.(

I doubt it. As long as he claims that he got the idea from Halo 2 and does not claim the idea as his own or use the map for profit, he is perfectly fine.

Looks kind of bland. The crates also stick out pretty bad; you may be better off making them out of regular geometry, rather than using models.

I could replace the crate models with geometry crates, but then all the crates would be positioned at the same angles.

Also, the original map this remake is based on is rather bland texture-wise (http://guidesmedia.ign.com/guides/482228/images/halo2_05_foundation_map.jpg), but my version probably could use some visual juicing up. Do you have any suggestions on how I could make the map more interesting?

you might want to keep 2 colors as 4-way ctf in BF was removed in the svn (dunno if it got restored though, i saw some gamma textures added back)
