This content is compatible with older edition(s) of the game it was made for, but not guaranteed to work with the current or development versions.

Detailed description

This is a CVS Tool and a Batch file for Windows to get the latest CVS Version of Sauerbraten.

I only tested it on Windows XP. Feel free to correct my English or report other "bugs". ;)

PS: I did this because so many User on the Servers tried to explain other users how to use CVS to get the developer version of Sauerbraten. And now they can just write "look at quadropolis :D"

How about uploading the actual script? :P

Oh, and for those on Linux, I've made myself a script to automate updating, which you can find here. Note that it assumes you're logged in to the CVS repo (you only have to log in once) and that you've already got an existing local copy.

If you want to use it, you may need to adjust the location of your Sauer installation, as well as your editor.

Yep, that's where it goes, though it seems the file-upload process is on the fritz again.
I tried the attachment, but it seems to have been corrupted or something. I can't open it.

MeatROme's identified the problem, but I don't think he's ready to release the reason... We may be seeing some major changes in Quadropolis' future.

i think that this or something similar should be included in a future releases of sauerbraten,and assault cube. maybe you could make a svn updater for blood frontier as well. i see bloodfrontier making great changes in future releases. if you haven't checked blood frontiers svn version you should.of course they have set a release date for july 4th and you could wait for it. but again this is a very good tool you have created. i rate it 5/5

I'm happy that it work for you. I wasn't sure how many dlls could strip from the CVS tool. ;)

Its interesting for mappers and other people who know what they do and just do not want to learn how to use a CVS tool.
But I think the CVS Versions do not belong in the hands of everybody around.

We don't want to see "the army of n00bs" asking about all the problems they have with the CVS Version on the forum!

specially if you can safely conclude that over 90% of the problems are solved with a simple deletion of a certain, 'config.cfg' ;)

"army of n00bs"....lmao.....yes i would have to agree that wouldn't be good at all.
I have been using smart cvs, took a second to understand it.But I had too much pride to ask anyone for help.So I just did some reading up on it and figured it out. It's crazy how some people will bug the crap out of you about "how do you do this" when obviously they have the internet or they would'nt be able to ask you. I always tell them to "google it" and leave me alone...lol..oh by the way I am a big fan of yours, your work has great detail. and hirato is a very good script writer as well.I love his menu.even if I had to altered it a little. greem armor....lol.Typo's crack me up sometimes.

Well, actually you download the CVS Version of Sauerbraten from Sourceforge by yourself with this. ;)

The problem is, that most CVS tools are useful but to complex for "just downloading" a CVS version.

And if you use a command line tool you end up using a script anyway.

Yes, but Sauerbraten uses SVN now, not CVS; so this package is obsolete.

No, because this would be to get the development version. Not to be used with it.

Anyway, Cube 2 CVS is obsolete (and this node has been marked "obsolete"). SVN has replaced it.

just curious, hope this isnt a stupid question, but would "Download GNU tarball" on this page ( http://sauerbraten.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/sauerbraten/?pathrev=1639 ) be a .gz file with everything in it that is listed? or am I an idiot and looking into something i shouldn't be anywhere near? I'm thinking it would be best to wait for the next release, but still dont want to, tehe.

If you've been following the forum you'd know it - and all seems clear for a release this weekend.
So you might want to wait for that now in the end!?!

CVS/SVN are geered toward developer usage, for a casual gamer - or anyone w/o write-access to the repository -
it boils down to:
- install client software : suggestion SmartSVN
- get anonymous access URI : suggestion Sauerbraten SVN access .. meaning [[ svn co https://sauerbraten.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/sauerbraten sauerbraten ]], where you should use this bit [[ https://sauerbraten.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/sauerbraten ]] when pasting it into the SmartSVN client while setting up the sauerbraten project (there's this button marked SVN-URI!!)
- do a check-out and hope the binaries for your system are somewhat recent
